New post

I am going to attempt to update my blog more regularly. When I am not doing much quilting there is nothing to blog about though.
Here are some pictures of a lap quilt I made last year.
It was for a friend and is called "Hugs for Monica"
The rose block is from a book called "101 Lag Cabin Blocks" by Linda Causee.

The quilt is an original design, machine pieced and quilted.
The pinky orange fabric used in the log cabin block and for the roses was hand painted using Setacolor paints.

I mailed a lap size quilt to my BIL today. It is the first quilt to be used for the original purpose quilts were made for that I have done. I started out with a fall palette but changed it a bit because some of the fabrics I chose from my stash were not large enough. It was a good excuse to go shopping. I used up nearly all the fabric I bought as I pieced the back. I have decided I like making the back a bit interesting. It is now muted greens with a brown border. I free motion quilted it with a vine and leaf design. My machine quilting is getting better but still lots of room for improvement.
The quilt is called Hugs for Peter.

Have also finished the small wall hanging I started in the Hilary rice workshop too. Haven't photographed it yet.

So much for posting once a week.
I have been working on a lap quilt to send to Australia. I have finished the top and am trying to make up my mind what I want to do with the back. I brought fabric but have just about enough left overs to piece a back which is always more interesting I think.
I am taking some time off work next week. I am spending 2 of them in a work shop with Hilary Rice. Here is the link to her web site. I am really excited about taking a class from such a talented quilter.

I have my Whale of a Tale back from Picket Fence. I am a bit disappointed that there has been no link to the winners. I would love to see what others did.
My current project is my entry for the Trend Tex Challenge at the Canadian National Quilt show in Saskatchewan. I will take pictures to post once the show is over.
I am going to try and post every week so will have to accomplish something to post about.

Tale of a Whale

I have finished and mailed my wall hanging for the black and white challenge to Picket Fence in Brockville, Ontario. It will be hanging in Picket Fence in January if you happen to be in Brockville. I will be in Alberta so won't get a chance to see it and the other quilts in the challenge. I would love to hear any comments.

Happy quilting,
Sandra
